History of Volcom Stone
Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall went on a snowboarding trip that would change their lives forever. For more than a week, they woke up to two metres of fresh snow every morning. It was their first real experience of powder riding and the new obsession would not stop there. Richard and Tucker had talked about starting a clothing business during the trip, but nothing was really agreed upon. Both quit their jobs and later in the spring of 1991 the two came up with the idea of starting a business around the three sports they loved; snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing. With $5,000 from Richard's father, they started; and Volcom Stone was born. The headquarters were set up in Newport Beach in Richard's bedroom and all sales ran from Tucker's bedroom in Huntington Beach. The two knew nothing about how to make clothes, but that didn't matter. It was all about creativity and liberation from the establishment. Since the beginning, the Volcom Stone has slowly spread around the world. The company has matured, but continues to follow the same philosophy it started out with.
