Thermal clothing is the first layer of clothing and is worn directly on the body. Thermal clothing has two functions: keeping the body dry and ensuring a good temperature. Thermo clothing is specially designed to transport perspiration to the next layer and therefore keep the skin dry (and warm). Thermo clothing should be tight. Thermal clothing is often called sports underwear or thermal underwear.
Thermo clothes are made in different thicknesses, often there are warm (winter) and cooler (light) variants. Thermal clothing is usually made of synthetic materials, but nowadays there are also many thermal clothing made of merino wool which is warm, does not itch and smells fresh for a long time. Merino wool has better temperature regulating properties than 'standard' wool and because the 'hairs' of merino sheep are longer, this wool does not itch.
